I went to Japan with a friend in 2008 and we were very jet lagged so we went to sleep pretty early, like 5pm. But I woke up at 9pm and I thought it was 9am, haha. I didn’t want to wake my friend because we hadn’t slept in over 24 hours so I decided to go for a walk by myself.
I got outside and it was twilight but I thought it was the dawn and I was confused as to why the streets were so empty, then I realised it was still the same night and night time, haha.
But while I was figuring this out I had a really nice walk and the air was so crisp, I stopped at a vending machine and got this weird Japanese Fanta that had like jelly in it and I walked to a 7/11 and got Onigiri (rice ball) and then guy heated it up for me in the microwave, I got to speak some Japanese properly after learning it in college for years. I felt truly independent and free. I know it doesn’t sound like much, I was just pleasantly happy. It was also the first destination on my one year long around the world trip. So I had everything to look forward to.
Thanks for this amazing question!
